The electrically operating roof is as strong and light as possible, retracting completely - with no intrusion into the luggage space - in a breathtaking 12 seconds - the fastest in the world.

The clever roof design also means added weight is minimal. So you can still expect the refined and involving ride the Mazda MX-5 has been always known for.

From a proud tradition

The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe has the same distinctive, flowing silhouette as the Mazda MX-5 soft-top. Light and compact, it looks stunning top up or down. After all, anything less simply wouldn’t qualify as a Mazda roadster.

At the same time, our designers strove to give it individuality and visual balance. The result is refined, stylish and unique.

Roof design

The roof is shaped to look compact and stylish, setting it apart from other cars and offering real agility.

The rear edge flows towards the horizontal for an impression of speed. The rear window has a printed heating element and is slightly larger than that of the soft-top model, ensuring good rear visibility.

Sporty inside and out

The interior of the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe offers all the sporty, fun-to-drive personality of its soft-top counterpart. The trim is similarly available in two packages: black fabric or black leather.

On the instrument panel, the 'roof open' and 'roof close' buttons are easily accessible for both the driver and passenger.

Minimal weight

Key to retaining the famous roadster experience was keeping the vehicle's kerb weight to a minimum. Only 37kg heavier than the Mazda MX-5 soft top, the Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe impressively follows the 'gram strategy' for uncompromised agility and driving dynamics (our engineers' objective of keeping weight to a minimum for an excellent power/weight ratio, and 50:50 weight distribution).

Active safety features

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) adjusts the braking force to suit the handling. Meanwhile, 2.0i models feature Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). This feature immediately stabilises the vehicle in response to understeer and oversteer.

There is also Traction Control System (TCS) and Limited Slip Differential (LSD), which ensures optimum engine power reaches the road when accelerating out of a tight turn (standard on 2.0i models).
